About Us

WE GO WAY BACK

It all started in 1966 when a friend from UCLA, James A. Collins (KFC & Sizzler), told the Sheldrake brothers about a “chicken place” called Kentucky Fried Chicken. The brothers took a chance and opened the first free-standing California KFC in Belmont Shore. Later in 1968, the passion for food and people grew, and they went on to create their own brand called Polly’s Pies. Donald and Eddie continued to build out both brands, which have now served in the communities of LA County, Orange County, and the Inland Empire.

On October 25th 2022, Eddie's 96th birthday, Polly's delicious pies are now available Nationwide!

OUR FOUNDERS

LA natives Donald & Eddie (Harvey) Sheldrake were raised by a hardworking button salesman father and a devoted mother who loved to garden. Both parents influenced their future with a passion for people and food. Donald served in the US Navy at the age of 21 and later married the love of his life, Dorothy. 63 years later, they live on land where they can garden and enjoy the fruits of their labor. Donald is known to be the brains and hands of Polly’s— Eddie calls him the “smart brother”. Eddie, the Dreamer who also served in the Navy, was an All-American UCLA basketball player coached by the famous John Wooden. He has a total of 8 Children, 16 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren and counting. To say the least, Family, Patriotism, and People mean everything to both the brothers, and these values have been an integral part of the Polly’s brand and identity.
